Spring Trail Etiquette – Don’t Ride OR Walk Mud!

As the weather gets warmer we’re all anxious to get out and ride! Now is the time to review trail etiquette so we can keep our trails in good shape for everyone to enjoy. Remember that we are all GUESTS on these trails. Access is contingent on positive relationships and written agreements with local government and landowners. Please respect the land and rules so we can continue to have access.
- Check trail conditions before heading out to ride. You can find Trailbot conditions for Evergreen, Greenbush, and Rocky Knoll on our website. Don’t ride or walk trails that are wet/muddy. They are closed for safety and to prevent tread damage and erosion.
- Leave no trace – pick up after yourself and others. Don’t leave litter behind. If you see litter, please help by picking up after others.
- Trail traffic courtesy – follow the standard trail yield protocol.
- Downhill traffic yields to uphill.
- Bikes yield to those on foot.
- Slow down and communicate so all have a good experience.
- Let others know as you approach from behind.
- Keep your speed in check.
- Stay on the designated trail and follow signage.
- Be nice, say hello. It makes a difference in everyone’s day!
- Dogs – clean up after your pet and appropriately dispose of the poop bags. Have your dog under control and heel your dog as you encounter others. Leashes are required for Evergreen, Greenbush, and Rocky Knoll. We love our dogs but not all folks do – it’s your responsibility to make sure your dog does not negatively impact another’s trail experience.
- Support your local trails. We love trails, we hope you do too. But trails aren’t maintained on love alone. Please do your part by supporting the local trail organizations with an annual membership, donation, and/or volunteer time. Every contribution matters to sustaining and growing the trail systems where you play. What are trails worth to you?
- Share your comment or concerns. See something on the trail that needs attention or have ideas for improvements? Please let us know so we can tend to it or put it in the work plan. With over 20 miles of mountain bike trails within Sheboygan County, your eyes and your assistance are greatly appreciated.
- Support those who support local cycling! Many businesses support SCC’s Mission through sponsorship and donation of time and talent. When you see an SCC Sponsor sign, please thank them for supporting our community!
